How to begin making assemblage or mixed media jewelry

I have a cupboard full of different kinds of beads, findings, chains, momentos, collectible items. I want to use these items to make jewelry necklaces. Not sure where to begin.

Thus far I know how to make links and wire wraps. Since many of these elements are so different from each other in color, line and texture, I'd like to know where you would start.

For example I thought about just beginning by wrapping wire loops around different elements and then figuring out what to mix with what.

Any ideas for me on wire wrapping and assemblage or mixed media jewelry for beginners?

Thank you.

Try videos. Try different shades of the same color.

Try two colors that look well together, such as pink and lilac, fuchsia and purple, black and white, etc.

Or shades of pinks, shades of blue, shades of purples, shades of browns, etc.

I sort my beads by color. Then sort each color from light to dark. I spread them out in Xmas boxes so that I can see them all at once. This makes it easier to find matching shades.

When not in use, I stack the Xmas boxes in a file box in the closet. This makes it easy to transport everything around as well as keep it dust-free.

How about sourcing inspiration from books?

One way could be to have a theme in mind for your piece. Another could be just taking several different items (say 5 items) and challenge to create a piece using all 5 items?
