Making Children's Jewelry

by Barb

Hi, everyone!

Let me start off by saying I absolutely LOVE this site. Whenever I do a search to answer a jewerly-related question this site always pops up on the first page.

So here is my situation:

I finally narrowed my market down to handmade jewerly for little girls, tweens and teens. I opened a shop on Etsy called LittleLayDeeBoutique (named after my daughters). Right now I am in LOVE with creating button earrings and rings.

However, my question is what other types of jewelry can I make from here within this niche? I know how to make basic beaded bracelets and necklaces but always have a hard time finding "child like" beads and charms.

Also, I have an issue when it comes to buying supplies. For example, I usually buy the button earrings in packs so I can make about 2 or 3 sets. However, my big button rings only come as a set of 3 but in 3 different designs. How much should I buy, especially since I am not sure if it will sell?

Finally, I am thinking about doing craft shows this year. How much jewelry should I make for each show?

Whatever advice you can offer is welcomed.

Selling your jewellery NEW
by: Jade

It is very difficult to judge amounts when you are first starting out and I am sure that anyone selling jewellery wishes that they had a crystal ball when it came to there stock.
If it is an on going line it is wise to take more than you think you will need because there is nothing worse than selling out half way through a show.
Everything can depend on the day and how much traffic the event has.
It is all a bit trial and error when you are starting out selling jewellery and it depends on the time of year and many other factors.

wire wrapped rings for kids NEW
by: Sherman Duke Jewelry

I make wire rings, both plain or beaded as small as size one on my mandrill for little girls. Really tiny earrings are easy as well. I can make them while they watch the process. I price these really cheap or give them away. Hopefully mom will come back later and purchase higher priced jewelry. This is a good way to use up plastic pieces that have lots of color.

Try not to limit yourself to just children's jewelry. Make a collection for women as well and retitle your boutique to include all ages, such as "LayDeeBoutique".

Look for universal colors or all-season colors, such as pastels or earth tones. Try every color of the rainbow.

Kids may like bright colors, but they may not always be suitable for woman in an office.

With craft shows, you need a huge inventory and need to continue booking one show after the other to make a profit from your investment.

Try consignment in your local area. Inquire at convenience, thrift, clothing and specialty shops. Start with a dozen items in each store and progress. Change your inventory once or twice a year. It saves time to have someone else sell your jewelry.

Ebay offers many types of display stands and a great selection of Tibetan silver charms.

Hi,
I tried to go to your web site, and this link came up in the search: Meylah.com
It showed only one pair of earrings. Is this your site? If not what is your web address.
Thank you.
